There are grumblings that Apple’s got its own version of wearable tech in the works. The iWatch sounds like what you’d think — all the functionality of an iGadget in wrist form. But there’s a few problems.
Watch-Like Things Haven’t Faired Well Historically. Remember the
? It was hip in a 90s-fad sort of way. Or
? Not exactly classic timepieces.
There’s already an iWatch. There’s a
built off of the iPod Nano that offer most of the would-be iWatch features. And probably for a fraction of the price, too.
People Want Watches That Tell Time (and That’s It). Watch-wearers fall into two camps: classic/status or digital/functional. Either you want your watch to make a statement about who you are (and thus spring for a nice dive or luxury watch) or you want your watch to be tough and functional. If your watch isn’t serving one of those purposes, then it doesn’t belong on your arm.
