You are bidding on a Fabulous and Rare Waterman Serenite Collection D'Art Four Seasons Fountain Pen Set. This set is #2, the lowest available in the world now and perhaps forever as set #1 was reportedly kept by Waterman for display. The set is contained in the original boxes with all certificates of authenication and is guaranteed genuine in all respects. The fountain pens are all medium nibs and have never been inked let alone taken out of their orignal boxes. The Maki-e workmanship on the pens is spectacular and these represent Waterman and pen craftsmanship at its finest.
I have taken the pen representing "fire" out for pictures to document its beauty. Each pen is contained in a white cardboard Waterman box and inside is a Waterman embossed leather box within which is a beautiful lacqurered wood box with a raised Waterman latch in gold color . Contained therein is the pen along with a brass plaque attesting to its # within the edition of 161, the divine proportion number upon which the set was based. Each pen is identical in the way it is custom housed and you can read a description and see vivid close-up pictures of each one in the links below:
The Serenite Collection d'Art: The four elements embody perfect equilibrium
Water, Air, Earth and Fire are the ultimate in creatvie balance. From within their contrasts is born an equilibrium that leads directly to serenity and harmony. This notion of balance creates a strong bond between Serenite and the four elements.
The Serenite has a unique asymmetrical curve, flattened ends, nib and ring. Breaking the mold in the world of writing, the Serenite opens the way for new designs characterized by pure and modern lines. Unlike any other pen before, SErenite can stand upright on its base when open or closed.
161 art pieces: a golden number for a creative apogee
Driven by a philosophy of creative prefection, each Serenite carries the number 161: the first three digits of the divine poportion, the golden ratio at the root of mankind's crowning artistic achievements, from the Egyptian Pyramids to Norte-Dame, from the greek Pantheon to Da Vinci's Last Supper. 161: the golden mean for total harmony in art, architecture, nature and biology
Earth, Air, Water and Fire
Serenite Feu
Comprised of four diffrent colored Urushi lacquers and gold dust(blown through a bamboo rod).
Urushi lacquer is derived from the sap of the increasingly rare Urushi tree(Rhus vernicifera), and has been used in Japan for nearly 9,000 years. Only around 250 ml of sap per can be extracted from the Urushi tree, making it a very precious material.
The process by which the lines of Serenite Feu are created requires such patience and concentration that only two or three lines can be completed during the course of a single day.
Serenite Eau
Comprised of sterling silver, Yako-Gai mother-of-pearl from the sea of Japan(selected within a precise chromatic range) and Urushi lacquer.
The sterling silver ring on Serenite Eau is created by French jeweler Nicolas Drouet using a system known as the "lost wax process," creating a single, unique jewel from each mold.
Serenite Air
Created using a crushed quail egg, gold dust(blown through a bamboo rod) and Urushi lacquer.
The ring on Serenite Air was created by crushing a single quail eggshell, delicately broken and sprinkled onto the ring. Nearly 40 years of practice and mastery gurantee the success of this technique, resulting in perfect continuity without a single trace of a joint.
Serenite Terre
Comprised of sterling silver and American crocodile skin.
The sterling silver ring on Serenite Terre and Feu (pure gold), are created by French jeweler Juliette Pailler-Chaineau.
After it's New York premiere, the Serenite Collection d'Art will go on nationwide tour of select cities around the US from June to October.
