HMT (Hindustan Machine Tools) is a public sector undertaking of the Govt. of India. In addition to other heavy engineering products, HMT also manufactures Mechanical and Quartz watches. They are in the watch business since 1962, when the Watch factory-I was setup in the city of Bangalore in India with technical collaboration with the Citizen watch company of Japan. Since then four more watch factories have been set up in various parts of India.
HMT is probably one of the few companies in the world that still offer handwound mechanical watches. Their handwound watches use their 100% in-house built movement, the HMT-0231 which is a derivative of the Citizen 020 movement from the 60's.
